Colorado has implemented new standards for Social Studies. Based on these new standards this group of eighth graders should spend the year covering the time period from the Revolution to Reconstruction of our country following the Civil War. These students covered this content in sixth grade and many protested the idea of relearning the same material. So as to not merely review for the entire year, we spent the First Semester focusing on the Civics Standards and the creation of our government.

Again, so we are not simply reviewing, we will tweak the new standards. We will focus on Economics and we will attempt to enhance students understanding of Geography, but we will do it while covering the 20th Century.

This is a VIOLENT video. World War I was a terrible, terrible war. The death and destruction was extreme. New technologies and weapons created devastating results.

I actually hesitated to post this...but I think it is probably a fair depiction of the war...

So, that's me. The Zac Brown Band song "Knee Deep" must have been written about me. I need to be near the water...

Anyway, I am a husband, father, teacher, and coach. I teach 8th grade Social Studies. I am head coach of our middle school football team. I help run the yearbook, run our school's Views of Youth program, and head our district's middle school Social Studies PLC team.

I try to incorporate sportsmanship, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of teaching. I have a lot to learn about becoming a great teacher, but I am trying to improve every day. That is exactly what I expect of my students.
